'Good Time Gang' Could Welcome Mark Wahlberg And Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill
The Other Guys and The Happening star Mark Wahlberg looks set to join comedic force Jonah Hill in a new indie film entitled Good Time Gang. The pair look set to join forces for the first time in the new film that could see them both step out of their usual film roles. The LA Times has revealed that the duo are signing on for the project which is produced by RCR Pictures.

The pair are reportedly to play two incompetent mercenaries who are sent on a serious case involving terrorism and along the way discover that one of them is related to the target. Empire say the film is being pitched as a Lethal Weapon type film that focuses more on the action than the laughs. The script will come from Max Landis.

The pair have already been busy stepping out of their comfort zones, with Jonah Hill appearing in 21 Jump Street and Moneyball alongside Brad Pitt. At the same time Wahlberg has found his way into

Adam McKay Reveals Details Of New Comedy 'Three Mississippi'

Adam McKay
You may have caught my post about a new film called Turkey Bowl which will see Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg team up for the second time after previously being involved with The Other Guys. Well the film now has a new name (Three Mississippi) and director Adam McKay has been spilling the beans to Total Film. Here's what he had to say:

“The idea was originally conceived for Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin,” McKay revealed. “Owen Burke, who’s a producer at Gary Sanchez, and I were talking about how crazily funny Wahlberg and Baldwin were in The Departed - how, even though it’s not a comedy, we could just watch them all day long.

“Burke dropped this idea, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s a movie!’ Then Will heard it and he wanted in.”

McKay goes on to reveal that the film is about two rival families, one of which contains father Alec Baldwin and son Mark Wahlberg, who live across the park from one another and get into a annual football

'Turkey Bowl' To See Mark Wahlberg And Will Ferrell Team Up Again

Scene From The Other Guys
Last year cop caper The Other Guys saw Mark Wahlberg and comedy giant Will Ferrell team up to bring us a rather enjoyable film. Now they are set to team up again in a new film entitled Turkey Bowl, according to Deadline. It won't follow on from The Other Guys but will instead see a rivalry between Wahlberg and Ferrell as they face each other in annual football games for their local teams. Warner Bros own the rights to the film and are sure to put in some big name cameos once again.

The Other Guys director Adam McKay will produce Turkey Bowl which should ensure the usual Ferrell/McKay comedic stylings that entertain us time and again. Both actors are currently busy with other projects; Will Ferrell is taking part in Everything Must Go and Mark Wahlberg has a part in Seth MacFarlane's film project Ted.

I'm not so sure whether this project will work if I'm honest. Sure it will feature the popular pairing of Ferrell

Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane To Take On 'The Flinstones' Reboot!

Funnyman Seth MacFarlane
Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show writer Seth MacFarlane will become the executive producer for the latest The Flintstones reboot! The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros and is said to focus on “the lives of the Flintstones and the Rubbles, two hard-working middle-class families living with contemporary conveniences in the dinosaur-era town of Bedrock.”, reveals Collider and Total Film.

MacFarlane showed obvious excitement when he said: “The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone. So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise.”

The Flintstones will be a TV series which will begin production in later this year and air for the first time in 2013. Rumours have already been spread that the series could lead to a film spin-off but these are so far

The Other Guys (2010)

Not Too Impressive - 3/5
So I saw this film called The Other Guys with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. This film sort of came out of nowhere for me. I don't think it made the cinemas anywhere and so when it went straight to DVD is was bemused as to why I hadn't heard of it before. The concept to me sounded like it would make an enjoyable film and I'm an ever present fan of Ferrell's so I gave it a go. I have to say that whilst watching the film I found it laugh out loud funny and enjoyable but looking back on it I am of the opinion that the cheap jokes clouded my view of what was a pretty poor plot and a relatively mediocre film overall. Hence, it didn't make the cinema.

The film had all the ingredients to be another one of Adam McKay's stereotypical production. Will Ferrell has been present in many of his films including Step Brothers and Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy and so I figured he'd be cast in a pretty similar role yet again. I think his role in The Other Guys began as a more understated one than we are used to seeing in a McKay/Ferrell partnership but the humour

Planet Of The Apes (2001)

On The Fence - 3/5
So I saw this film the other day called 'Planet Of The Apes'. This was the 2001 Tim Burton remake that has taken a lot of stick since its release but I thought I'd offer up a review before the new film (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) is released. Unfortunately I have not at this time seen the 1968 original but will be adding it to the to-see list. With this remake in mind I can see why it has taken a lot of stick. However, the film had its moments and I wouldn't totally write it off as a mediocre sci-fi film. I think everyone gives it such bad reviews in comparison to the original. I have the benefit of it being my first foray into the Planet Of The Apes realm. I may have to edit this review upon seeing the original however.

In terms of its storyline the film was far-fetched at times and even laughable in places. Despite a sublime costume/make-up showing the film still felt comedic in places it shouldn't have. The special effects left much to be desired towards the end and I would challenge anyone to try and spot the numerous amount of mistakes that caused me annoyance at the start of the film. Mark Wahlberg gave one of his breathless and very monotonous performances just as he did in The Happening which was something I could have done without. The stand outs in terms of acting in this one would have to go to Tim Roth, who played Thade, and Paul Giamatti who was endearing as well as being slimy as the slave controller Limbo. I mentioned earlier how effective the make-up was in the film and this was proved with the fact that by the end of the film I was looking to the credits to see who was who. I didn't even realise that Michael Clarke Duncan from The Green Mile was in it until now.

As I have said I'm sure that upon watching the original I will realise that this movie was poor in comparison but for now I'll say it's just O.K. Nothing more nothing less. I wouldn't recommend it but at the same time I wouldn't condemn someone for wanting to watch it. You'll have to use your own judgement on this one.

The Happening (2008)

Ridiculous - 2/5
So I saw this film yesterday called 'The Happening' and it has to be one of the strangest and laughable plot lines I've encountered. I don't really even know what happened by the end but I think the film was trying to come to the conclusion that plants were to blame for everyone killing themselves. Now I'm no scientist but I think that is pretty far fetched. Throughout the film I felt like it was a mickey-take of another film and was taking the piss out of itself but then I released it was actually trying to be serious. The storyline was terrible, the acting was terrible and the film itself was downright terrible.

I think this has got to be Mark Wahlberg's worst film. I'm actually quite a fan of his films and particularly enjoyed 'Shooter' and 'Three Kings' but I found this to be one of the worst performances by a leading actor I've ever seen. There was a hint of desperation in every single line he said even before anything had happened. It was as if he was about to cry with everything he said and I found his performance very childish. Although I adore Zooey Deschanel she was no better and, like almost everyone in it, showed barely any emotion. It was nice to hear the vocal talents of John Leguizamo from 'Ice Age' and it's always a pleasure to see Alan Ruck who should have more major roles. John Leguizamo was probably the stand out for me as he showed some level of emotion.

For some reason, after I read many a bad review for this film, I decided to add it to my Lovefilm list. What a mistake it was. I assure anyone that if they are thinking of doing the same after reading this review that you will be disappointed. The film is ridiculous.

Date Night (2010)

Carell's Best Film - 4/5
So I saw this film yesterday called 'Date Night' with the ever wonderful Steve Carell. I've got to say, I think this is my favourite Carell film to date. When you think about it, Carell has really not been on the big scene for very long. The first thing I saw him in was 'Anchorman' and that was only in 2003. For the amount of time he has been around it is amazing at just how successful he has become. The reason why I say 'Date Night' is his best film yet is that it differs somewhat from everything else he has done. 'Evan Almighty' was exactly like 'Bruce Almighty' which didn't differ enormously from 'The 40 Year Old Virgin'. In fact the only two films other than this one that I found him memorable in were 'Dan In Real Life' and 'Little Miss Sunshine' again because these were films unlike what we had seen from him before. Although Carell brings his normal brand of outlandish comedy to us again in 'Date Night', he manages to do so with much more emotion and a more genuine feel to his performance.

The stand out for me in this one was Tina Fey's role as Carell's wife Claire. I never knew she was so funny! Her quirkiness and alternative style to comedy fitted this film so well. We normally see Carell with wife that a man of his personality would never get but here we get a perfect match in which they were both able to bounce off each other and come up with some very funny stuff.

Possibly the funniest moment of the film was a nice double act scene with James Franco and Mila Kunis. Kunis has made a very quick leap to stardom recently having only been involved in blockbuster films since 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' in 2008. Franco has made an almost equally rapid journey to success and in this scene we can clearly see why. The two work so well with each other and even though it was just a fleeting moment of hilarity it was my favourite scene of the film.

This film brought to the table real life emotional events mixed with hilarity and absurdity and left me with a smile on my face. I would recommend this to anyone.
