Terrence Malick's New Film Attracts Christian Bale

Christian Bale
Terrence Malick, director of such films as The Tree Of Life and The Thin Red Line, has attracted the talents of Christian Bale to his new project as well as tempting four actresses to compete for the female lead. The as yet untitled film seems to be a low key affair and will essentially consist of Christian Bale opposite a young female lead.

Roony Mara (Youth In Revolt), Mia Wasikowska (Alice In Wonderland), Clemence Poesy (Harry Potter) and Haley Bennett (Marley & Me) are all reportedly vying to star opposite the Oscar winner. Malick is said to be taking his time to find the right girl for the part.

Malick will not begin working on the project until his also low-key Ben Affleck flick, reportedly entitled The Burial, is over and done with. It will be released some time in 2012 and work is likely to begin immediately on the new project. It won't be the first time Bale and Malick have worked together after Bale featured among the star-studded cast of Malick's film The New World. Bale was also in line to star in The Burial in the role later taken by Affleck.

Total Film reveals that no word of this film will probably surface for some time and nothing cast-iron has officially been decided. The project however does excite me and I'll be continuing to cover it's development on So I Saw This Film.

Anyone else as excited as I am about this one? Let us know...

LOST And Found: Top 10 Film Performances From The Cast Of Lost

Despite how you may or may not have loved how Lost turned out, I think everyone can agree that it was one of the most jaw-dropping, on the edge of your seat putting TV series of the 20th century by far. It stirs up such vehemently passionate discussions every time it comes up in conversation and that's what a good series should do.

However, those who starred in Lost have had a hard time shaking off those characters, due to the fact that they were so popular. So I've compiled this list of the Top Ten Film Performances From The Cast Of Lost to encourage appreciation of the projects you may not have noticed them in.

10  - Claire Littleton (Emilie de Ravin) - Emily (Brick, 2005)

It wasn't the biggest film role ever but it displayed just how well Emilie de Ravin can played really messed up characters. I would have thought she used the role as inspiration for her performances towards the end of the Lost series. She is currently broadening her film career having starred in Remember Me alongside Robert Patinson.

9 - Michael Dawson (Harold Perrineau) - Flynn (28 Weeks Later, 2007)

Harold Perrineau as Flynn
Harold Perrineau starred in a pretty cool role as the helicopter pilot who saves the children at the end of 28 Weeks Later. In the film he destroys same Rage infested humans by flying a helicopter into them. Can't get much cooler than that. Perrineau currently has five films in production! Way to move on man.

8 - Mr Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) - Wombosi (The Bourne Identity, 2002)

Mr Eko was probably my favourite Lost character of the second series. He kicked ass and had an immense background story. But did you know that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje also had a small role in The Bourne Identity? His character Wombasi shot Bourne in the back on his boat after Bourne failed to assassinate him.

7 - Benjamin Linus (Michael Emerson) - Zep Hindle (Saw, 2004)

Michael Emerson played a sadistic character in the first Saw film back in 2004. He met the Jigsaw Killer whilst he was an orderly in a hospital and they formed a bond. He is somewhat of a red herring throughout the film as we believe he is the killer. Emerson's TV career is still going strong.

6 - John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) - Jerry Blake (The Stepfather, 1986)

The Stepfather

I think the Lost actors must have been chosen for their fucked up roles in the past. Way back in 1986 Terry O'Quinn, who we know better as John Locke, took a starring role in The Stepfather. He plays a man looking for the perfect family. When his family turns out not to be everything he hoped, he kills them. He then moves town, change his identity and does the same thing with another family. The DVD cover speaks for itself on this one.

5 - Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) - Connie James (The Hurt Locker, 2008)

Evangeline Lilly had a relatively small appearance in the Oscar winning film The Hurt Locker in which she

Nestor Carbonell Latest Addition To The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises New Addition
The sequel of the film which arguably contained Heath Ledger's greatest role (The Dark Knight) has already attracted a lot of attention of the movie news world and has attracted a multitude of stars to boot. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Joseph Gorden-Levitt are among the host of talent on display. Variety reports that Nestor Carbonell's name can be added to this list and that he will likely reprise his role as Mayor Garcia. The Dark Knight Rises certainly seems like it will be a massive hit and this will come as no surprise to those who have seen the first film. The success of The Dark Knight was massive and I'm sure this will rub off on the sequel.

The Dark Knight Rises is set for release on July 20th 2012. There is an amount of secrecy surrounding the planned storyline of the film and director Christopher Nolan will want it to stay that way. Fervour is building around the film and fans will be left itching for word of the threequel's finale plot. For now we will have to wait but it certainly looks set to smash the box office.

Rescue Dawn (2006)

Some shocking scenes - 4.5/5
So I saw this film the other day called 'Rescue Dawn'. I thought ok, so Christian Bale plays a fighter pilot who is captured in Vietnam and then one day escapes, fine. You can probably guess what I imagined when I read the description of the film; I pictured an all out action with a heroic Christian Bale leading a daring escape. What I got was a darkly comic Bale playing a character obsessed with escape and, some could argue, bordering on madness by the end of the film. I was surprised, but in an extremely good way. I longed to see the thin and fragile Bale we saw in 'The Machinist' (2004) and that was exactly what we got. It seems that, if you need a lead male who can play both muscle men ('American Psycho' (2000)) and characters who can only be described as unhealthily thin, you choose Bale.
The comedy in the film can only be described as dark, with attempts to make light of the situation that faces the prisoners. The script stemmed totally from Bale, every speech was carried by his fast paced intellectuality. Unfortunately one of the main detractors of the film was Jeremy Davies. You may remember him as Daniel Farraday in 'Lost' and in this role he excelled, with his husky, slow voice building up the drama necessary in a TV series such as 'Lost'. However, I found that in 'Rescue Dawn' he was using a dialect that sounded like whispering in a foreign language. I really wanted to like his character but I just couldn't.
So far so good, but the film needed an edge. We certainly got it with the genuinely shocking scenes showing the torture of Bale's character Dieter Dengler and a very unexpected decapitation of Dengler's escape partner, which pretty much came from nowhere. BAM. Head on the floor without any hesitation. 'Rescue Dawn' managed to shock me and make me laugh, I didn't expect either.
Would I recommend it? Without a shadow of a doubt. Bale at his fragile best.
