Brad Pitt In Talks For Assassin Thriller 'The Gray Man'

Although currently working on World War Z, which is being filmed in Glasgow as we speak, Brad Pitt has been linked to another new film by Variety in the form of The Gray Man. The reports suggest that Pitt is in preliminary talks to star as the worlds greatest assassin who makes his way through Europe to save both his handler and their family.

James Gray (Two Lovers) will be directing and the script, which comes from Adam Cozad, looks to have excited him and potentially Pitt also. The story follows a former CIA operative who finds a secret government plot against him. Although it sounds fairly Bourne like in nature, director James Gray has stated to Deadline why it will not follow those same lines:

Forrest Gump

I think this is either the third or fourth film from the Robert Zemeckis portfolio to appear on these lists so far and so I guess that makes him my favourite director. Forrest Gump is a film that you will never forget watching for the first time and one which is endlessly enjoyable. One of Tom Hanks' greatest performances. The Zemeckis/Hanks partnership never fails in my eyes.

The Full Monty

Not only is The Full Monty is a wonderfully funny comedy but it is also an insight into the hardships faced by certain Britons during the Thatcher era. It deals with an issue so taboo at the time in a darkly comic way that is also designed to lift people's spirits. An awesome soundtrack on this one too.

Fight Club

Fight Club can never be overlooked in this type of list. The duo of Edward Norton and Brad Pitt works so brilliantly and rumours have surfaced recently that the pair may appear together again for the first time since Fight Club. If you haven't seen this one you're missing out.

Four Lions

If you had asked me before I saw Four Lions whether I thought a comedy that centred on terrorism would ever work, or would ever be green-lighted in the first place, I would have said you were crazy. I decided to watch it on recommendation and it turned out to be one of the most outrageous comedies I've ever seen. Somehow they made it work and it was downright hilarious. Probably not for everyone though.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

For me Ferris Bueller's Day Off is just the perfect childhood film. Yes, I did use the word perfect. It's a comedy caper that doesn't fall into the trap of being an unoriginal snoozefest. Matthew Broderick gives the performances of his life in this one. The final scene ranked among my top five film scenes. Check this one out if you haven't and check out the So I Saw This Film review.

Will Smith And Quentin Tarantino To Make An Unlikely Team?

Recent news revealed the title of Quentin Tarantino's new film to be Django Unchained and now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Will Smith could take part in the project. He is reportedly the favourite for the lead role Django, a slave who seeks revenge on a plantation owner to free his slave wife. It certainly sounds the type of thing Smith would do well in and it will mark nice comeback for Smith who hasn't been seen on the big screen since Seven Pounds. Despite the interest shown by Tarantino to get Smith n board i is unclear whether he has even seen a script at this stage.

THR have pointed out some problems that could prevent Smith taking part. The fact that the film is ridden with expletives is one, and the financials of Smith could also prevent him getting involved. It would be interesting to see Smith in a more risque role though and after seeing what Tarantino did with Brad Pitt in

B

The Butterfly Effect

I know not everyone is a fan of this film and it has taken some stick over the years but for me it was moving and touching. I haven't bothered watching any of the sequels because they look rubbish and because I wanted to remember this film in a good light. I thought the story was brilliant and the way it was brought to the screen was fantastic. I'm sure it will be a controversial pick but I think it deserves a mention.

The Beach

Again I don't think this film was the most popular, but after reading the book I thought the movie did justice to the Alex Garland novel. I found the film moving and poignant and I thought it was one of those films that makes you just want to get up and go somewhere. Leonardo DiCaprio was brilliant and he portrayed a character, who at times was extremely disturbed, effectively.

Back To The Future

The first Robert Zemeckis film to show up on My Cinemtic Alphabet: In Depth so far but by no means the last. Most of my favourite films of all time have come from him and I appart from the Coen Brothers he has to be my favourite modern director. Every time I see this film I am whisked away to my childhood and I think any film that can do that well deserves merit.

Babel

This film has got to be one of the most beautiful cinematic experiences I've ever had. The cinematography shown was sublime and the story was truly moving. Possibly Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett's best performances for me. If you haven't seen this one you are seriously missing out.

Beowulf

Told you there was more Zemeckis to come. I think this has to be one of my favourite animated films. The action and fight scenes are so enjoyably brutal and a whole host of stars lend their voice talents including Ray Winstone and John Malkovich. Check this one out.

Megamind (2010)

At Least It's Funny - 3/5

So I saw this film just now called Megamind which you'll remember as being Will Ferrell's latest animated film. The story followed  the journey of Megamind, a blue, round-headed supervillain in his battles against Metro Man. He then goes on to control Metro City, get bored of all his power, create a nemesis for himself who turns evil and consequently causes Megamind to save the city and get the girl. Hmmmmm. It's all a bit predictable and it feels as if it has been done before even though movies of this type normally focus on the 'good guy'. Despite the way this film tried to break the stereotypical comedy/animation superhero movie (Monsters Vs Aliens, The Incredibles) by focusing on the other side, by the end it became exactly like all these other previous films.

That's what this film was. I must say it started off quite good. The comedy was flowing and it managed to feel fresh within the genre. By about half way through with the creation of Titan, played by Jonah Hill, the storyline began to lose my interest and by the end we all knew what was happening. And just for the record, Jonah should should never ever ever at any point in a film play a superhero. His voice is totally inappropriate for this type of role and no matter how many times he has done it before, he should stick to the usual geeky and hilarious characters we are used to seeing him in.

Despite the poor casting of Hill, I think Will Ferrell was a good pick to play Megamind. He manages to bring such comedic value just with the inclusion of his voice and the lack of a decent plot-line didn't seem as important when his character was making you laugh. At least they got that bit right. Tina Fey should have been given a more comedy-based role too. What's the point of casting her in a boring part that could have been played by anyone? If you get someone funny on board, use them. Brad Pitt was well cast as Metro Man. His voice brings an air of arrogance that you usually don't get from him from his on-screen performances. Aside from the casting, the animation was pretty awesome. DreamWorks and the animation team behind it certainly did a good job of that.

This film was by no means amazing and, speaking as a fan of Monsters Vs Aliens, this film just couldn't stand up to movies similar to it. Apparently a sequel is on the way so I think I'll be missing that one.Saying that the film was funny and not every film has that to boast.

Edward Norton and Brad Pitt To Reunite?

We all remember the famous pairing for the brilliant movie Fight Club between Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Indeed, that is where many of us will have picked up our adoration of the two. So news that the two are willing to reunite in a new film come as a fantastic surprise to lovers of the aforementioned film. Both actors have done many brilliant films since their pairing back in 1999. Edward Norton has been busy with projects such as The Incredible Hulk, although I must add his recent work cannot stand up to his late-nineties movies such as American History X, and the ever busy Brad Pitt has been involved in films such as Inglorious Basterds and Babel. The news that the two do plan to team up again is very intriguing and exciting.

The Independent reported the story and revealed that Edward Norton said that a reunion is "a possibility,". He also explained how the two have discussed the matter: "We've talked about it but me and Brad being in something together is a complicated thing to put together.". Certainly no plans are set in stone but a reunion is definitely on the cards. How exciting a prospect is this? Would it be a waste of time for the two to team up again with a film that presumably won't measure up to Fight Club? Have your say below.
