Kevin Costner Says No To Django Unchained

Kevin Costner
Quentin Tarantino's new slave western film Django Unchained hasn't failed to excite the movie world so far. One reason for this was the proposed cast that Tarantino was planning on bringing together which included Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L Jackson and Jamie Foxx. However, one of the biggest names reportedly attached to the film, Kevin Costner, has followed the example of Will Smith by dropping out of the project, reports IndieWire.

Kevin Costner was rumoured to be playing Ace Woody, a member of Calvin Candie's (Leonardo DiCaprio) crew. However, Costner will now play no part in the film, giving the reason of 'scheduling conflicts'. Costner is already working on a TV movie entitled The Hatfields & The McCoys for the History Channel and will soon be appearing in Zack Snyder's Superman film Man Of Steel.

The search is now on for Quentin Tarantino to find a new Ace. Rumours have already circulated that

Jamie Foxx Chosen For 'Django Unchained' Lead Role By Tarantino

Jamie Foxx Will Play Django
Quentin Tarantino's latest project has already caused quite a stir after the title was leaked on Twitter with a picture of the front cover of the screen play by Tarantino himself. Django Unchained was confirmed as the title within hours and rumours spread that Will Smith was likely to take the lead role; a freed slave who attempts to save his lover from a plantation owner.

After Smith turned the role down Tarantino looked at a number of other potential actors, including Chris Tucker, before eventually settling for Ray and Collateral star Jamie Foxx. Leonardo DiCaprio will play the plantation owner, with Tarantino favourite Christoph Waltz playing a German bounty hunter.

Opening on Christmas day 2012, the film looks set to be another Tarantino triumph coming off the back of the success of Inglorious Basterds.

Variety revealed the main synopsis as well as some more casting rumours: "Foxx will play the title role of Django, a freed slave who teams with a German bounty hunter to take on an evil plantation owner in order to retrieve his long-lost love, Broomhilda. Kerry Washington, who played opposite Foxx in

Will Smith And Quentin Tarantino To Make An Unlikely Team?

Will Smith
Recent news revealed the title of Quentin Tarantino's new film to be Django Unchained and now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Will Smith could take part in the project. He is reportedly the favourite for the lead role Django, a slave who seeks revenge on a plantation owner to free his slave wife. It certainly sounds the type of thing Smith would do well in and it will mark nice comeback for Smith who hasn't been seen on the big screen since Seven Pounds. Despite the interest shown by Tarantino to get Smith n board i is unclear whether he has even seen a script at this stage.

THR have pointed out some problems that could prevent Smith taking part. The fact that the film is ridden with expletives is one, and the financials of Smith could also prevent him getting involved. It would be interesting to see Smith in a more risque role though and after seeing what Tarantino did with Brad Pitt in

The Other Guys (2010)

Not Too Impressive - 3/5
So I saw this film called The Other Guys with Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. This film sort of came out of nowhere for me. I don't think it made the cinemas anywhere and so when it went straight to DVD is was bemused as to why I hadn't heard of it before. The concept to me sounded like it would make an enjoyable film and I'm an ever present fan of Ferrell's so I gave it a go. I have to say that whilst watching the film I found it laugh out loud funny and enjoyable but looking back on it I am of the opinion that the cheap jokes clouded my view of what was a pretty poor plot and a relatively mediocre film overall. Hence, it didn't make the cinema.

The film had all the ingredients to be another one of Adam McKay's stereotypical production. Will Ferrell has been present in many of his films including Step Brothers and Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy and so I figured he'd be cast in a pretty similar role yet again. I think his role in The Other Guys began as a more understated one than we are used to seeing in a McKay/Ferrell partnership but the humour

Morgan Freeman And Sandra Bullock To Team Up?

It has been revealed that Morgan Freeman and Sandra Bullock may be about to team up in an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel Djibouti. The crime novel focuses on the modern phenomenon of Somali pirates. Leonard discussed the potential cast in an interview during the launch of the second TV series of justified and reportedly said: "Morgan Freeman likes it a lot, in fact I even thought of him as I was writing it,"and later revealed that Freeman wanted to get Sandra Bullock on board. I don't know about you but this story sounds perfect for a gritty African drama film and Freeman would certainly be welcome in one. I'm not too sure about Bullock but seeing as she came on Freeman's recomendation she must be able to bring something to such a film.

Leonard also revealed that Samuel L. Jackson was offered a part in the film but he had to decline because he was working on a similar role. If Jackson had accepted there would have been no stopping this film. As it stands it looks as if it will be a powerhouse film but it will need another big name such as Jackson to boost it even further. Can't wait for this one though!
